OUR NEW SCHOOL LINK – ST. MARY’S IN MALAWI
The children met their new friends from Malawi!
IRON MAN SEPTEMBER 2021
The children started their Iron Man topic, with a bang! As part of our curriculum, where we start with topic launch, a 10ft Iron Man landed on the school grounds. Luckily, the CSI team was out there to investigate the strange being. Children used the experience to support their creative writing and even to incorporate the Iron Man into their music lesson!
Well done to our new Class 2 prefects. They will be taking on a number of responsibilities, which include running various lunchtime clubs (choir, phonics, pickleball and football), school council, but most importantly, being positive role models.
In Class 2, we have been working hard on replicating how Ted Hughes creates suspense and imagery in the story, ‘The Iron Man’.
We have been focusing on writing our own diary entries, plus techniques on how to write a novel. We have thoroughly enjoyed The Iron Man topic and have recently created our own pop up book based on our favourite chapter from book. Below are some examples of our work. Enjoy!
World Book Day 2021
We postponed World Book Day to coincide with children returning to school and combined it with Red Nose Day for Comic Relief! All the staff and children got involved to celebrate all the incredible books and book characters that we love. A huge thank you to all the families for supporting Red Nose Day and World Book Day. Check out the photos below!
Class 2 teamed up with The Book Trust to collect books, to give them as gifts to children who need them more than we do! The Book Trust, has the aim to ensure every child receives a bedtime story, therefore we thank all the children for kindly donating their books. As well as bringing a book to donate, the children came into school in their pyjamas and brought in their favourite book to share with the class. Children from Class 1 and Class 2 came together to read their favourite books to each other. It was a wonderful day for reading, being together and supporting others that need it the most! The books that have been donated will be on their way to Royal Preston Hospital and to the FCWA (Fylde Coast Women’s Aid) in Blackpool. Check the photos out below!
Number Day 2021
We raised £67.53 for the NSPCC. Thank you to all the families that supported our wonderful number day and helped us raise money for such an important charity. The NSPCC do so much to ensure all children are listened to, supported and are safe. The money we raised will go towards paying for someone to be at the end of a phone for a child in need! The children in Class 2 had a wonderful time, looking at money problems, counting all the money that they had raised and looked at the key vocabulary for the main four operations in maths.
