Lancaster Diocese Centenary Celebration!

‘Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5)

Mary’s appearance at Lourdes to Saint Bernadette reflects her deep compassion for and identification with the poor. Saint Bernadette came from a very humble and uneducated background, yet Mary chose to appear to her in the simple grotto at Lourdes. By revealing herself as the Immaculate Conception to Bernadette—a profound theological title—Mary shows that the Church’s teachings about her are not abstract or removed from daily life. Instead, they are deeply relevant to everyone, particularly the poor, reflecting God’s love, concern, and the dignity He places on their lives and holiness.

During this special tour, three statues of Our Lady of Lourdes will journey to every primary and secondary school in the Diocese, staying in each school for three school days. These statues have been blessed and commissioned to encourage devotion to Our Lady, deepen our faith, and strengthen the bonds between our diocesan schools. We received the statue from St. Francis’ and passed the statue onto St. Mary’s & St. Michael’s Primary School in Garstang.

Upcycling the EYFS area!

Mrs. Byrne and Mrs. Gornall have been working their magic in the EYFS area, with fantastic support from Mr. Burgess, Mr. Gornall, and a generous donation from the Pattinson family. Together, they’ve created imaginative and engaging new spaces that are already bringing joy to the children.

Each area has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the children’s interests and to support their physical and academic development. The result? A vibrant, creative environment where learning feels like play—and judging by the smiles on the children’s faces, it’s a huge success! We look forward to welcoming families to the EYFS Open Afternoon, Monday 7th July 2025, from 4pm-6pm.

Hothersall Lodge Residential

Year 5/6 children took part in a two day residential trip at Hothersall Lodge. The children have had a brilliant two days: tree climbing, canoeing, archery,  lake swimming, two zip wires, team challenges, scaling gorges, den building and fire lighting, survival skills, enjoying dinner time as well as having a little down time.  Everyone has joined in and have had big smiles on their faces! The instructors were really impressed with our great group of children.  Night time included a few games, biscuit decorating, enjoying the beautiful grounds and the games room.  It was a few days that will live long in the children’s’ memories. They pushed themselves with challenges and supported each other through, with great encouragement. A big thank you to the staff that supported the residential, it could not be done with out their love and support.

Lancashire Sings!

A huge well done goes to Lancashire Music Service for organising and leading a great musical event. Last Tuesday, we joined many other children from other Lancashire schools for a day of song and laughter. Our children from St. Francis’ and St. Mary’s came together to sing many familiar songs and we are looking forward to singing them again at our music collaboration concert on the 11th July. We all had a wonderful time and it was lovely to see parents joining in with some of the songs…we certainly have ‘high apple pie in the sky hopes’ and we look forward to Lancashire Sings again next year. It was wonderful to bring our two schools together once again, roll onto the 11th July – see you all there!
