Pilgrims of Hope
We welcomed Christine from CAFOD to come to work with the children investigating the Jubilee Year 2025 in the Catholic Church has the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. It’s a special time for Catholics to renew their faith, deepen their relationship with God and others, and reflect on their role in the world. The Jubilee Year is a time for pilgrimage, repentance, and spiritual renewal, with a focus on reconciliation and social justice. Luke 4:16-21, where Jesus proclaims the Jubilee in the synagogue, is a key scripture for the Jubilee Year, highlighting themes of freedom, healing, and justice. The children at St. Mary’s interacted well and have been planning a pilgrims of hope walk in school during Lent, which was completed with Mrs. Gilmour accompanying groups of children around each reflective station. Each station was thought provoking, reflect or a consideration for social justice!
As part of our catholic church’s Jubilee Year, Father Sony paid the older children a visit to talk about catholic faith and social justice.
Wheelchair Basketball
The school received some inspirational visitors this week as NP Inclusive Sport’s Nat Pattinson. He talked to the children about his life changing accident and about how faith and belief can make anything possible. Our school values of resilience, care and compassion, respect and aspirations were demonstrated throughout the day and children were inspired by Nat and with the opportunity to take part in wheelchair basketball. The children had some strong reflections following the days events and hope they hold this experience close to their hearts and they continue to develop as young people.
Beautiful Blossom and Springing into action!
It is that beautiful spring time of year and it St. Mary’s, it is the time that our blossom trees stand strong and as petals drift like dreams anew across the playground. It is a time of regeneration of nature and of God’s beautiful world around us. After school club have focused on Easter and the new life following the death of Jesus. They have enjoyed being outside and looking at the beauty of nature around us.
